All Through the Blood
We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace - Ephesians 1:7
From the vein and context of this divine revelation comes author Marian E. Turenne’s inspiration to candidly communicate her life story. Entitled All Through the Blood, Turenne’s stirring testimony attempts to touch the readers’ lives and strengthen their faith in God.
“I demonstrate in writing how both my parents were strict, but fair. Well, let me rephrase that because depending on which one of my siblings you ask there might be a difference of opinion. According to my brothers dad was the strict one and to me and my sisters, ma was the one! And the fair issue, well let’s just say was a matter of opinion. They raised us according to the Word, so we experienced an exciting home environment with discipline unlike most our friends. Ma was the homemaker, dad the provider and protector, and both in their own way were nurturers. They took Isaiah 28:10 literally and taught us precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little. I have to confess though, the ‘there a little’ used to sometimes hurt a lot. You see my mother and father firmly and literally believed that the rod and reproof gave wisdom: but a child left to him self bought his mother to shame. So, the rod was not spared in our home, and there were those occasions when we were corporately disciplined. Yup! You heard me right! We all got it together! In the book I talk about if one of us did something wrong and no one fessed-up, we all got a whooping! I don’t know about my siblings, but used to I think to myself, ‘come on ya' all, whodunit?’ Shoot, if I had known who had put me the position of being whooped for something I didn’t do, I would have squealed like a pig. The Code of Silence was not my system of working things out especially when my behind was on the line.
My relationship with each of my parents was very different. Although I believe my mother really tried to love all her children, I always felt relationally at odds with her most of my life never receiving the validation I felt I needed. Please don’t misunderstand me, my mother was a good woman, she took great care of her family, she taught me well and I learned some powerful life skill lessons from her. But like some of you who have experienced strained parental relationships, my reality was that the bond just wasn’t there. I thank God for the stamina that was developed in my life and the affirmation I received came because of the relationship I had with my father. He and I were very close and next to Christ, he knew me best. Dad always encouraged me without judging and throwing up my past to become all God created and called me to be. As a little girl I learned about Jesus and I fell in love with Him. At age eight, I clearly heard Him speaking to my heart comforting me when I felt troubled. Once when things got real confusing for me concerning my mother, I heard Jesus say, ‘Marian, your mother doesn’t know how to love you.’ In the book I share the clarity, the deliverance and reconciliation I received just day’s prior to my mother’s death,” the author shares.
